Some people find it almost impossible to gain muscle or just get toned.  They waste time and money going to gym’s and trying strategies that do not work.  It is in reach for everyone to get in shape. You just need to know some key things to get you there.  Whether you just want to bulk up, build up you biceps, or achieve any other muscle building goal, follow these 5 tips to get you to build muscle fast.

Muscle Building Tip #1: Hit Mutliple Joints
Building muscle quickly will not work doing single joint movements like bicep curls or tricep extensions unless you are
already very muscular. Multi-joint exercises like pull-ups, squats, bench pressing, or deadlifts will do the job. These
exercises will not only work muscles in less time, but will also allow you to use much heavier weight than you would with
single-joint exercises.

Muscle Building Tip #2: Get Heavy
A lot of people that try to build muscle do not use heavy enough weight. Pick heavy weights and go to failure for each set.
Failure=until you can’t do anymore even if I put a gun to your head! One of the reasons bodybuilders have a partner is so
there is someone there to help them when the weight gets too heavyto lift with good form. If you don’t have a workout
partner, just stop when you get too tired to lift with good form, rest a few seconds, then keep lifting to complete the set.
This is much better than using a weight that allows you to comfortably complete a set without muscle failure.

Muscle Building Tip #3: Do Less Cardio
Your body needs calories in order to build muscle so if your doing a significant amount of cardio like bicycling or running,
your burning calories that your body could otherwise use for muscle building. If you want to build muscle as fast as
possible, limit your cardio to a brief 2-3 sessions of HIIT CARDIO

Muscle Building Tip #4: Eat
To put on  muscle you have to consume more calories than you burn.
Instead of shoving anything down your throat, try to grab calories from healthy protein sources like grass-fed beef, healthy fat sources like coconut milk, avocadoes, and healthy carbohydrate sources like potatoes and yams. you should be eating 6-7 meals a day!

Muscle Building Tip #5: Rest
To build muscle quickly, you need to fatigue a muscle group, but then give it time to rest. If you work a muscle too hard, too many days in a row, those muscle fibers will become too damaged to properly repair and grow. Typically, a muscle needs at least 72 hours to properly repair from a muscle-building, weight training session. A good rule to follow is to wait
until you are no longer sore in a muscle before working it again. For example, do a shoulders and chest workout on Wednesday
and Saturday, a leg workout on Tuesday and Friday, and a back, arms and abs workout on Monday and Thursday.  Also, MAKE SURE YOU GET ENOUGH SLEEP!!

  1. Hi Brandon,
I am trying to reduce the fat around my hip and also doing weights as much as i can. kindly advise an effective way to loose fat around the hip

    • Whats up Parthi!

You can not lose fat in just one spot. you will have to do it all over. if you follow my diet plan and do HIIT cardio you should start seeing results within 2 weeks!

Keep me posted on your progress homie

  2. What’s up Brandon!
I realized that your sample split targets muscle groups twice per week, I was curious whether the volume of exercises remains the same. I’ve never worked out a muscle group twice per week, so generally I perform approximately 12 sets for larger muscles and 8 for smaller and then rest an entire week before hitting the same muscles. When I try the split you recommend, should I still perform the same # of sets per workout or will I have to shorten the volume? Also, wouldn’t weight lifting 6 days in a row tax the body since there isn’t much rest? Just curious…thanks. for all your work and advice.

    • Hey Jason,

Thanks a great question! i think you should base it on how fast your body recovers. A good rule of tumb is to wait till a body part is no longer sore to train it again. some people can train 2x a week, some once, and some people have to wait a full week and a half!!! You have to do what works best for your body. Great question homie!

  3. As always the best advise coming straight from Mr Carter the man himself. your training muscle building tips are priceless Bro! Thanks Brandon,

  4. Hey Brandon,

Appreciate you writing another post it has really helped me throughout the years.

    But I got a question:

I do a lot of curls so my arms look fairly toned, but they are still small because I have a very thin frame. And making my biceps bigger only gives me a lump of muscle in front of my arm.
I just want my arm bigger.

So yeah…looking at me from the front, my arms just look like bones. You can see the biceps looking at me from the sides, but again…I want my arms bigger all the way round.

Specifically, how can I do this?

    Much love bro

  5. Wassup bro?

Thanks for the post appreciate it!
I live in the U.K so can’t get hold Tea Rexx or Animal Pack, but I do take Essential Multivitamins everyday.

When I usually workout this is what I do:

First set – I do 10 reps – (Moderate, good weight)

Second set – I do 10 reps – (Intermediate, getting harder)

Third set – I do 8-10 reps – Try my best to reach ten, usually fail at 9
but try to force myself to ten.

    90 second rest in-between sets.

Is that okay? What I’m worried about is doing loads in the first set, to failure. Second set and third set I wouldn’t be able to lift one because I’m out of juice?

Sorry for being long man, just wanted to clarify.

    Peace!

    • Hey Jaks!

I think you would be WAY better off going to FAILURE with EACH SET!!! if your worred about running out of energy, do the HEAVY WEIGHTS first. you should should start to see results faster!

      Thanks for the comment homie

  6. Hey Brandon!

Appreciate the work you put in, It has helped me so much throughout the years.

  7. Hey Brandon! love your workout ideas! my main issue, is that all these fitness buffs, and trainers, talk mainly about loosing weight when you do their workouts. I have a slim body, and you probably get this question alot, but do you know a way for me to get bigger in as little as 4 to 5 months? I hate being intimidated by kids at school, who always are looking down on me, cause i am not as big as them. I would just like to know, if there is anyway of gaining weight, on a low end budget :( I have heard of a plan to gain weight, by drinking a 1/2 gallon of milk each day. Supposedly the guy worked out, and started drinking the 1/2 gallon, and gained 15 pounds in the first month! i don’t know who to follow or believe anymore! please help me! :(((

    • Whats up Nick!!!

I feel your pain bro! I used to get picked on, beat up, and ROBBED when I was really skinny! ( Here is some of my story http://highlifeworkout.com/2012/03/20/will-lifting-weights-stunt-growth-plus-my-before-and-after/)

When I started to get bigger, ppl stopped messing with me and I started defending and sticking up for the kids that were smaller that me. Thats my goal for your!!!

First off, you need to be eating 6-7 times a day (as much as you can each time!!!)

second you need to get on a workout PLAN and life as HEAVY as you can!!!

Thats really it bro, in a few weeks you should start to see results (IF your doing everything right!!!) and in a few short months you will look like a totally different person!!!

now I am going to give you some advice on how to deal with the bullies TODAY. your going to have to stand up to them! you have have to stand up to them EVERYTIME they come at you crazy! The may back down or your may have to fight them and you might lose, but thats ok! even if you fight them an lose, they will start to just pick on someone that wont fight back. bullies look for easy targets, once you establish yourself as difficult target, they will move on. it may be hard to believe now, but once you start to stand up for yourself, the bullies (and everyone else) will respect you more!

Good luck homie. please keep me updated on your results bro.

  8. BC,

Just wanna say thanks for all the posts man. I’ve been hitting the gym pretty hard for a number of years but not getting to where I wanted to be (aesthetically chiseled). Now I’m following your routines and dietary advice I’m confident I’ll reach my goal before the year is out. If I get there I’ll post you some before and after pics.

    Much love from Melbourne, Australia.

  9. Man, I got this problem with my school. Thing is, my P.E class runs about a mile every tuesday and thursday. I hate it because I know it’s gonna make it that much harder to get any sort of gains. How can I work around this but still do HIIT 2-3 times a week? My goal is both gaining some size AND cutting since summers right around the corner. Any help would be appreciated.

  10. Hey Brandon,

I’m trying to get my abs to show but I’m down to approx 6-7% body fat and I’m only getting the sides. Are there workout I can do at home that can get them seen more?

  11. hi brandon

my chest is not in proper shape it more like breast and i can lift 15 kg each on bench press. i do a lot of arms, back and leg. i see results in those area but not my chest area even though i do chest workouts

  12. sup brandon,

i was wondering, lets say i hit my back twice a week.. do i keep the same exact exercises for both days? or do i switch it up for those 2 days?

  13. Hey Brandon! Do you have any advice for losing belly fat and getting the 6-pack to show? I’ve been doing your 15 min. ab workout pretty frequently – 3 to 4 times a week – eating a bit less, but so far not many results. Advice please!
